Inspections Required
Request an Inspection
Inspections should be scheduled at least 48 to 72 hours prior to the requested date to avoid construction delays. Please call 207-854-0638 to schedule your inspection.
Types of Inspections
Depending on the type of construction activity, you may be required to obtain several inspections during the build and at the conclusion of your permitted project. Included below is a list of activities requiring inspections.
- Residential builds. The following inspections are required during and/or at the conclusion of all residential development.
- Foundation inspections. This includes footing (check for rebar in the building site), foundation wall (check for rebar), and backfill (includes perimeter drainage).
- Building Inspection. Includes framing, electrical, temp service, service, and rough-in.
- Plumbing
- Insulation
- Certificate of Occupancy (final step)
- Commercial builds. The following inspections are required during and/or at the conclusion of all commercial development. Note that both municipal and state/federal permits and/or inspections may be required.
- Foundation inspections. This includes footing (check for rebar in the building site), foundation wall (check for rebar), and backfill (includes perimeter drainage).
- Building Inspection. Includes framing, electrical, temp service, service, and rough-in.
- Plumbing
- Insulation
- Above-ceiling
- Certificate of Occupancy (final step for municipal approval)
- State & Federal permits. Applicants should check with State and Federal agencies to see if additional permits are required (such as State of Maine building permit, sprinkler permit, and/or fire alarm permit). Failure to obtain required inspections may result in violation or removal of the work that was not inspected.
